Firstly thanks to everyone who came along and supported the Race Night. It was great fun and we raised some much needed funds. A big thank you to our sponsors of the Race Night: Subway, Shoreham Flower House, Darren Ross Jewellers, Identity, The Bridge Inn, Shoreham Carpet Centre, Jonathan Marshall Independent Stocktaker and Beach Hut Studio.
The date for the Bonfire event is confirmed as the 13th November 2010 and so its now full steam ahead to get everything done and ready for the big night. Good progress is being made on lots of fronts including:
- Insurance has been agreed and paid for
- St Johns Ambulance will provide First Aid support – this has also been paid for
- Adur and Worthing Councils have approved our plans to hold a Bonfire. We will be meeting with the Police planners shortly
- A contract has been agreed with a firework event company – subject to us raising sufficient funds
- Catering will be provided by a couple of catering vans that have paid for their ‘pitch’
- The website now includes a page on how to make donations via cheque, credit and debit cards.
- We will be raising awareness of the event and the need for donations at the October’s Farmers Market
WHAT WE NEED…
- Money! The fireworks display will cost about £2,500 so we need as many donations as possible – without it there will be no fireworks.
- Tombola prizes. We will be raising awareness and funds at the October Shoreham Farmers Market so if you can provide a Tomobola prize that would be great.
- Help at the Farmers Market. We will have a pitch at the Farmers Market but need help on the morning – setting up, giving out leaflets, selling tombola tickets etc.
- On the night… marshalls
- The next day… help with beach tidying/cleaning
If you can help with any of the above please contact us.
The next meeting in on Tuesday 19th October, 7pm at Subway in the High Street.
Tickets will shortly be available from Subway and Toast by the Coast for our Fundraising Race Night on the 18th September.
So what’s in store? It’s your chance to be a winning ‘horse’ owner, a top tipster or just an unlucky punter… but whichever it is you are sure to have a lot of fun.
Our own unique take on a Race Night will give you the chance to place a bet on some slightly wooden horses with the chance of some great prizes for owners and a good pay out for the winning bets.
If it doesn’t turn out to be your lucky night at the races, there is always the raffle and charity auction to look forward to.
What’s more…. there is food included in your ticket price of just £6 – just bring your own drink.
It will be a great night and all the money raised will go towards the 2010 fireworks, so get your tickets now. And, if you are hesitating, don’t… tickets are more expensive on the night, so get down to Subway or Toast by the Coast now.
Raffle prizes
Please please please can you offer raffle prizes and items or promises for the auction. You could also sponsor a race. We already have two valuable artworks for auction from one of our supporters. Contact us through the website or bring stuff on the night.
Firstly a huge apology to anyone that tried to attend the meeting on the 2nd of September but did not find us. Due to a late cancellation we had to change venues and while we attempted to pick everyone up and move them to our new hosts, Subway, if we missed you we are terrible sorry.
So a big thanks to Subway and we are pleased to say that Subway have agreed to be the hosts of our future meetings as well as being a sponsor of the upcoming Race Night.
A quick summary of the meeting
- We have received the necessary permissions to hold a bonfire on the beach on the 13th November 2010
- Insurance has been put in place
- An agreement has been provisionally made with Frontier Fireworks to put on the fireworks – subject to us raising the funds. They are an experienced team that run similar events across the country including at Eastbourne
- St Johns Ambulance have been approached to support the eveing
- Discussions still need to be finalised with the Police and other parties but progress is being made
Fundraising – Race Night
Most of the meeting was taken up with the “Race Night in association with Subway” on the 18th, when we need to raise substantial funds for the fireworks.
- Race Night, raffle and auction on the 18th September
- Buckingham School
- Tickets £6 in advance, £7 on the door
- Food included, bring your own drink
- Tickets available from Subway and Toast by the Coast
It’s going to be a great night… but don’t forget to bring your wallet! We look forward to seeing you there.
