After the great success of the 2010 Shoreham Bonfire and Fireworks night on the beach we are delighted to announce that we will be back in 2011. And, we can confirm that the date for this years Family Bonfire and Fireworks will be the 12th November 2011.
We hope to make the 2011 even bigger and better but that will require lots of planning, some fundraising and, of course some fun along the way. We will be kicking off some planning meetings in the coming months so if you would like to be involved then join our mailing list and keep an eye on our blog, Facebook or Twitter.
Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who came along to the November Shoreham Bonfire Society meeting. On the night we had enthusiastic discussions on a range of issues from what the 2010 celebrations should look like to whom we need to contact to make the event come together.
If you did not get a chance to come along and share your views or can not make the next meeting on the 15th December, take a look at some of the feedback below and let us know what you think…. it’s a community event so add your views to help us make it the event you want to see.
Bonfire Procession – a popular start to any bonfire event, a fancy dress/costume procession gets everyone involved. Could we, like Beach Dreams, encourage the local schools to get involved? If we have a procession, where should it start, could we have multiple starting points, how long should it be – should we for example start from the town? If it is fancy dress, what theme should the fancy dress have? What else should the procession include… lanterns, torches, banners, effigies or sculptures?
Live music and food – should there be live music as part of the parade or at the bonfire site? If so, what sort? Would everyone like some food available – hotdogs etc?
Location – in the last few years Shoreham Beach has been the preferred location for the bonfire. On the night it was agreed that this was the first site to seek permission for – do you agree? If not, where else?
Fundraising – in the next 10 months we will need to raise a minimum of £5,000. This is ahuge task, so we are open to all ideas and suggestions of how we can make this a reality.
