The Beach Dreams Bonfire that we have all come to know and love was started by Fr Marcus of the Church of the Good Shepherd some ten years ago.

The Bonfire was a spin off from the Beach Dreams Summer festival. It started as a result of the banning of the numerous bonfires that used to run the whole length of the Beach. Interestingly this happened because someone had hidden some gas canisters in one of the fires which were fortunately discovered before the fire was lit.

As a result, all of the bonfires were replaced by one great big one which was kept under 24 hour supervision.

The Bonfire Night developed with the Beach Bateria samba band leading a procession from Beach Green to the Church where the Bonfire and firework display took place. Food and live music were laid on, with participation all totally free to the community, according to the Beach Dreams concept.
